Alaska Ocean Film Festival
The Alaska Ocean Film Festival returns to Juneau with a whole new batch of salty films dredged up from the dark depths of the big blue.
Two shows this time around, each featuring a different set of Ocean films.

Cabin Fever Arts Festival
This weekend I’ll be hosting two filmmaking lectures in the Ruby Room.
“Editing 101”
Saturday March 15th, 1:00pm @ The Ruby Room
An introduction to the history and concepts behind digital video editing, this lecture is a good place for beginners to get a toe hold and for more practiced editors to review their basics.
“Special Effects”
Saturday, March 15th, 4:00pm @ The Ruby Room
This lecture on compositing and advanced special effects will provide an opportunity to see the work flow and process behind the scenes. I will cover a few specific effects in depth and answer questions about creating effects of your own.
Dido & Aeneas
Dido & Aeneas plays this weekend at the JDHS auditorium and features a filmed rendition of the whole opera which plays while the singers and orchestra perform live. The film was shot in and around Juneau and includes locations like the Ice Arena and Eagle Beach.

Kazu Kibuishi
Kazu is coming! If you enjoy comics or graphic novels, you’re probably familiar with his work on the Web-comic Copper, the Flight anthologies, or the recently released graphic novel Amulet: the Stonekeeper.
“Creating Graphic Novels and Comics”

Kazu will discuss how to formulate a storyline, how to sketch and thumbnail pages, and demonstrate the use of a laptop and graphics tablet at the digital stage of production. This event is open to all ages.
“Comic Illustration Workshop”
Saturday, March 22, 1:00pm @ The Alaska State Museum
Kazu will conduct a free comic illustration workshop designed for students in 4th-8th grades. Registration is first-come, first-served by calling the museum at 465-2901. This event is limited and will fill fast, so register soon.
