Alaska Oceans Film Festival

The Alaska Oceans Film Festival is brought to you by the Alaska Oceans Program and The Alaska Center for the Environment in partnership with the San Francisco Ocean Film Festival. Local support comes from KTOO and the JUMP Society.

Stolen Gear

Yesterday afternoon someone walked into our apartment on South Franklin and walked out with Lou’s guitar and Aaron’s laptop. Both the laptop and guitar have been used in our film productions and it would be nice to see them again. There are some pictures of the items posted here:

Pictures of Laptop and Guitar

It was a downer but it’s ok because we know true richness doesn’t lie in material wealth… it lies in catching whoever stole our stuff and sending them down Blueberry hill in a port-a-pottie.

Visual Storytelling Workshop

BOOOOM! The next filmmaker workshop will take place Tuesday, March 14th at 6:00pm in the Ruby Room. KACHUNK! We’ll be watching several scenes from feature films and discussing how the filmmakers use (BLAMO!) sound effects and music to alter the viewing experience and tell the story.

Hope to see you at the workshop or the Alaska Oceans Film Festival this weekend!

Copyright Criminals Remix Contest

Creative CommiesThe JUMP Society worked with the Juneau Arts Council last August to bring Kembrew McLeod to Juneau for a discussion on intellectual property rights. Kembrew shared some of his film projects and spoke about his book “Freedom of Expression®: Overzealous Copyright Bozos and Other Enemies of Creativity.”

Kembrew’s latest project, The Copyright Criminals Remix Contest, encourages artists to sample audio from “Copyright Criminals,” his upcoming documentary. Vocal samples are available from Chuck D, George Clinton, De La Soul, Coldcut, Negativland and other artists interviewed for the film. The winner will have their music featured as a part of the “Copyright Criminals” documentary and will be included on the film’s companion CD.
